Full Definition

الحَبَشُ , a coll. gen. n., and الحُبْشُ , or this is a pl., and the former is also said to be an anomalous pl., and الحَبَشَةُ , also said to be an anomalous pl., and wrong with respect to rule, having no sing. of the measure فَاعِلٌ, for they did not use حَابِشٌ as a sing. thereof, like فَاسِقٌ as sing. of فَسَقَةٌ, but الحَبَشَةُ became used as a dial. var., commonly obtaining, for الحَبَشُ, and is allowable in poetry in cases of necessity, and الأَحْبُشُ , also used as syn. with الحَبَشُ, or it is pl. of الحُبْشُ, with damm, not a sing. as it seems to be from the mention of it in the K, and الأُحْبُوشُ , and الحُبْشَانُ, which is a pl. of الحَبَشُ, like as حُمْلَانٌ is pl. of حَمَلٌ, and الحُبُوشُ, [also a pl.,] and الحَبِيشُ , which is also a pl., [or rather a quasipl. n.,] and الأَحَابِشُ, which is likewise a pl., app. of أَحْبُشٌ, and الأَحَابِيشُ, [which is pl. of أُحْبُوشٌ,] A certain race of the blacks; [namely, the Abyssinians; who, however, are not properly called “ blacks: ”] one of whom is called حَبَشِىٌّ. The dim. of حَبَشٌ is حُبَيْشٌ.
