Full Definition

الظّIV , Verbal.Noun إِلْظَاظٌ, He kept, or clave, or adhered, to him, not quitting him, and to it: he applied himself to it perseveringly, assiduously, constantly, or incessantly; as also الظّ عَلَيْهِ: and لَظَّ بِهِ, [Present.T, accord. to general rule, لَظِظَ ] Verbal.Noun لَظٌّ and , or the latter is a subst. from الظّ به; in the former sense, and in the latter. You say, الظّ بِالكَلِمَةِ He kept to the expression. And hence, أَلِظُّوا فِى الدُّعَآءِ بِيَا ذَا الجَلَالِ وَالإِكْرَامِ Keep ye in prayer to [the expression] يا ذل الجلال والاكرام; and repeat it often: a saying of Ibn-Mes'ood. Hence also, فِى الحَرْبِ The keeping, or applying oneself, perseveringly, assiduously, constantly, or incessantly, to fighting.
2 He remained, stayed, dwelt, or abode, in it, namely a place; as also الظّ عليه.
3 الظّ المَطَرُ The rain continued, and was incessant.
