Full Definition

برّزهُII , (Verbal.Noun تَبْرِيزٌ, S, K,) He made it apparent, manifest, plain, or evident; he showed, or manifested, it; namely, a writing, or book, or other thing; as also ابرزهُ : or الكِتَابَ signifies he put forth, or produced, the writing, or book; syn. أَخْرَجَهُ: and [as it often signifies in the present day,] published, it; syn. نَشَرَهُ. [See also 4 below.] It is said in the Kur [xxvi. 91 and lxxix. 36], وَ بُرِّزَتِ الجَحِيمُ, meaning And Hell shall be uncovered.

2 [Hence,] برّز الفَرَسُ, or برّز عَلَى الخَيْلِ, Verbal.Noun تَبْرِيزٌ, The horse outstripped the [other] horses in the race-ground: it is said of a horse that outstrips in a race: and, accord. to some, the like is said of whatever outstrips: and برّز عَلَى الغَايَةِ [He passed beyond the goal].
3 Hence, برّز فِى العِلْمِ, Verbal.Noun as above, He surpassed, or excelled, his fellows in knowledge. And [simply] برّز He surpassed his companions in excellence, or in courage. And برّز عَلَى أَقْرَانِهِ [He surpassed, or excelled, his fellows, or his opponents].
