Full Definition

بَهَرَهُI , Present.T ـَ Verbal.Noun بَهْرٌ, He overcame him: he overpowered him; subdued him: he surpassed him; excelled him. See also 3. You say, بَهَرَتْ فُلَانَةُ النِّسَآءَ Such a woman surpassed the [other] women in beauty. And بَهَرَ [alone] He excelled in knowledge &c.; or he was, or became, accomplished, or perfect, in every excellence, and in goodliness. And بَهَرَ القَمَرُ, or بَهَرَ القَمَرُ النُّجُومَ, Present.T ـَ Verbal.Noun بُهُورٌ, The moon overcame with its light the light of the stars. And بَهَرَتِ الشَّمْسُ الأَرْضَ The light of the sun overspread the earth.
2 [Hence,] بَهَرَ, Present.T ـَ Verbal.Noun بَهْرٌ and بُهُورٌ, It shone, or shone brightly: and السَّحَابَةُ The cloud shone, or shone brightly.

def.2 بَهَرَهُ, Present.T ـَ Verbal.Noun بُهْرٌ, also signifies It [caused him to be out of breath; interrupted his breathing; (see بُهْرٌ;)] caused to pant, or breathe [shortly or] uninterruptedly.
2 Also, Verbal.Noun بَهْرٌ, He stopped his breath by beating, or by squeezing his throat, or throttling him, or by any other means: he plied him, or worked him, (عَالَجَهُ,) until he became out of breath, or until he panted: he imposed upon him a thing that was above his power, or ability. A poet says, إِنَّ البَخِيلَ إِذَا سَأَلْتَ بَهَرْتَهُ Verily the niggardly, when thou askest of him, thou stoppest his breath.
3 [Hence,] بُهِرَ, i. q. انبهر, as explained below.

def.3 بَهَرَهَا, or بَهَرَهَا بِبُهْتَانٍ, Verbal.Noun بَهْرٌ, He reproached her, or accused her, falsely; he aspersed her; calumniated her; or brought a false accusation against her. You say, بَهَرَهَا بِكَذَا He reproached her falsely with, or accused her falsely of, such a thing. [See also 8.]
