Root: زيل

Form: 6

Full Definition

تَزَاْيَلَVI see 5, in three places.
2 [Hence,] التَّزَايُلُ signifies also الاِحْتِشَامُ; a tropical meaning: one says, تزايل عَنْهُ, meaning اِحْتَشَمَهُ [i. e. He was, or became, abashed at him]: because the مُحْتَشِم separates himself, and shrinks, from another.
3 [See also مُتَزَايِلَةٌ, whence it seems that one says, of a woman, تَزَايَلَتْ, meaning She veiled her face from men: see likewise 3.]
