Root: ضع

Form: R. Q. 2

Full Definition

تَضَعْضَعَتْ
R. Q. 2 referring to a building, i. q. اِتَّضَعَتْ, i. e. [Its angles, or corners, or its sides,] sank down; and became in a state of ruin.
2 And تضعضع said of a man, He was, or became, lowly, humble, submissive, or abased; [or he lowered, humbled, or abased, himself;] لِآخَرَ [to another], or لِغَنِىٍّ [to a rich person]. Hence, Aboo-Dhu-eyb says, وَتَجَلُّدِى لِلشَّامِتِينَ أُرِيهُمُ أَنِّى لِرَيْبِ الدَّهْرِ لَا أَتَضَعْضَعُ [And my constraining myself to behave with hardiness to those who rejoice at my misfortune: I show them that I will not humble myself to the evil accidents of time].
3 And He became poor: as though from ضَعَّ: and تصعصع is a dial. var. thereof, on the authority of Aboo-Sa'eed.
4 And He became weak, and light in his body, by reason of disease, or of grief.
5 And تضعضع مَالُهُ His property became little.
