Full Definition

تَعَطَّفَV see 1, former half, in three places.
2 [تعطّف also signifies He affected a bending of his body; like تَثَنَّى, with which it is coupled in the S and O and K in art. غوج.]

def.2 تعطّف بِالعِطَافِ He clad himself with the عِطَاف [i. e.] with the رِدَآء; as also بِهِ.
2 Hence, in a trad., in a prayer of the Prophet, سُبْحَانَ مَنْ تَعَطَّفَ بِالْعِزِّ وَقَالَ بِهِ, meaning [I declare, or celebrate, or extol, the absolute perfection] of Him who hath clad Himself with might as with a رِدَآء [and (as expl. in the K in art. قول and by Sgh) hath predominated thereby].
