جَدْوَى

Full Definition

جَدْوَى A gift; as also جَدًا : dual جَدْوَانِ and جَدْيَانِ; the former, regular; the latter, anomalous, formed by commutation. You say, مَا أَصَبْتُ مِنْ فُلَانٍ جَدْوَى قَطُّ [I have not obtained from such a one a gift ever]. And hence the prov., شَغَلَتْ شِعَابِى جَدْوَاىَ: see art. شعب.
