جِرَابٌ

Full Definition

جِرَابٌ , not جَرَابٌ, or this latter is of weak authority, or peculiar to the vulgar, A provisionbag for travellers: or a bag, or receptacle, for travelling-provisions and for goods or utensils &c.,; syn. وِعَآءٌ: or such a receptacle made of sheep-skin, in which nothing is kept but what is dry: pl. [of mult.] جُرُبٌ and جُرْبٌ, the latter a contraction of the former, and [of pauc.] أَجْرِبَةٌ.
2 A sword-case; or a case, or receptacle, in which a sword is put with its scabbard and its suspensory belt or cord; syn. قِرَابُ سَيْفٍ. (TA. [See also جُرُبَّانٌ.])
3 The scrotum.
4 جِرَابُ القَلْبِ [The pericardium, or heart-purse]. (K in art. ثهت, &c.)
5 جِرَابُ البِئْرِ The cavity of the well; or its interior, from top to bottom. You say, اِطْوِ جِرَابَهَا بِالحِجَارَةِ Case thou its interior with stones.
