جَرِيدٌ
[a coll. gen. n.], n. un.
جَرِيدَةٌ : the latter is of the measure فَعِلَيةٌ in the sense of the measure مَفْعُولَةٌ; signifying A palm-branch stripped of its leaves; as long as it has the leaves on it, it is not called thus, but is called سَعَفَةٌ: or a palm-branch in whatever state it be; in the dial. of El-Hijáz: or a dry palm-branch: or a long fresh palm-branch: pl. جَرَائِدُ.
2 [Also, جَرِيدَةٌ , A tally, by which to keep accounts; because a palm-stick is used for this purpose; notches being cut in it.
3 And hence, حِسَابٍ An accountbook: and الخَرَاجِ The register of the taxes, or of the land-tax.]
