Full Definition

جَمَّI , Present.T جَمِمَ Verbal.Noun جَمٌّ, said of water, &c., It became much, or abundant; as also ; said of a thing: and, said of water, Present.T جَمُمَ and جَمِمَ the former of which is of the higher authority, Verbal.Noun جُمُومٌ, it became much, or abundant, in the well, and collected after it had been drawn from; as also . And جَمُّوا They became many.
2 جَمَّتِ البِئْرُ, Present.T جَمُمَ and جَمِمَ Verbal.Noun جُمُومٌ, The water of the well returned by degrees, and became much, or abundant, and collected; and signifies the same.
3 [Hence, جَمَّتْ مَثَابَةٌ جَهْلِهِ, a tropical phrase, explained in art. ثوب.]
4 جَمَّ الكَيْلُ, Verbal.Noun جُمَامٌ, with damm, The measure became full or filled. (KL. [But only the Verbal.Noun is there mentioned: so that the verb may be جُمَّ, which see below.])
5 جَمَّ الفَرَسُ, Present.T جَمُمَ and جَمِمَ Verbal.Noun جَمَامٌ and جَمٌّ; and ; The horse abstained from covering, so that his seminal fluid (مَاؤُهُ) collected.
6 Also, (Present.T of the former verb as above, TA, and Verbal.Noun جَمٌّ and جَمَامٌ, S, K,) The fatigue of the horse went away; [he recovered his strength after fatigue;] he recovered from his fatigue, being left unridden; and so [of which see also the pass. form, below].
7 [And hence,] جَمَّ, [Verbal.Noun جَمَامٌ, q. v. infrà,] He rested; said of a man [as well as of a horse]; and so .
8 Also, said of a bone, Verbal.Noun جَمٌّ, It had much flesh; its flesh became much, or abundant.
9 Also i. q. عَلَا [He, or it, became high, &c.: perhaps said of water in a well].
10 Also, Verbal.Noun جُمُومٌ, He rose (اِرْتَفَعَ) in his pace, or going.
11 Also, Verbal.Noun جَمٌّ and جُمُومٌ, said of an event, of the arrival of a person, It drew near; it came to pass: and اجمّ signifies the same, said of an event, of separation from another, and of an object of want: احمّ, [q. v.,] with the unpointed ح, in this sense, was not known to As.
12 And, said of the نَصِىّ, and the صِلِّيَان, [two plants, Verbal.Noun not mentioned,] It attained to the state of having a جُمَّة [app. meaning tuft, or flower-bud].

def.2 جَمَّ الكَبْشِ, or جَمِمَتِ الشَّاةُ, [perhaps a mistranscription for جَمَّت,] Present.T جَمَمَ Verbal.Noun جَمَمٌ, The ram, or sheep or goat, was hornless.

def.3 جَمَّهُ, [Present.T جَمُمَ accord. to rule,] Verbal.Noun جَمٌّ, He left it to collect; as also . And جُمَّتِ البِئْرُ [The well was left for its water to collect]. And البِئْرَ He left the well for some days until its water should collect: whence the metaphorical phrase, كَانَ مَثَابَةُ سَفَهِهِ, [explained in art. ثوب,] occurring in a trad.
2 Also He filled it (namely, a measure, S, such as is called مَكُّوك, K) so that it had what is termed جُمَامٌ; and so ; and . And جُمَّ It was filled. See also جَمٌّ, last sentence.
