جَوَفٌI The being [hollow, or] wide and hollow within: or the being empty, vacant, or void: an Verbal.Noun of which the verb is of the class of تَعِبَ [i. e. جَافَ, originally جَوِفَ, like خَافَ, sec. pers. جِفْتَ, Present.T يَجَافُ]: the being wide, spacious, or ample: the Verbal.Noun, or source, whence شَىْءٌ أَجْوَفُ. [See also 10.]

def.2 جَافَهُ, [Present.T يَجُوفُ,] Verbal.Noun جَوْفٌ, It reached his جَوْف [or inside, or interior, &c.]. It entered his جَوْف. And جَافَتْهُ الجِرَاحَةُ The wound reached his جَوْف.
2 طَعَنَهُ فَجَافَهُ, and , He pierced him and pierced his جَوْف: and جوّفهُ , Verbal.Noun تَجْوِيفٌ, he pierced him in his جَوْف. جُفْتُهُ بِالطَّعْنَةِ, and الطَّعْنَةَ, I made the spear-wound, or the like, to reach his جَوْف. جَافَ الصَّيْدَ He made the arrow to enter the جَوْف of the object of the chase.
