Full Definition
حَذَتِI
, [Present.T and Verbal.Noun as below,] The shoemaker's knife cut the sandal, or sole. And حَذَى يَدَهُ
He cut, or cut off, his arm, or hand, with a knife. And حَذَى أُذُنَهُ
He cut off a piece of his ear.
2 حَذَى الجِلْدَ, Present.T يَحْذِى, He, or it, wounded the skin. And حَذَى الإِهَابَ, Verbal.Noun حَذْىٌ, He rent, or tore, much, or he made many holes in, the skin, or hide.
3 حَذَى لِسَانَهُ, and فَاهُ or فَمَهُ, Present.T as above, and so the Verbal.Noun, It, namely, vinegar, and wine, or beverage, and [sour] milk, &c., bit his tongue, and his mouth; had a burning effect upon it, like cutting.
4 حَذَى فُلَانًا بِلِسَانِهِ He spoke evil of such a one, saying of him what would grieve him if he heard it; reviled, vilified, or vituperated, him; [as though] he cut him with his tongue. A man who does so is termed
مِحْذَآءٌ .
