Full Definition

حَسْرَةٌ Grief, or regret; syn. تَلَهُّفٌ, and تَأَسُّفٌ, or نَدَامَةٌ, or نَدَمٌ and غَمٌّ: or intense lamentation or expression of pain or of grief or of sorrow; syn. شِدَّةُ التَّأَلُّمِ: or most intense grief or regret (أَشَدُّ التَّلَهُّفِ, S, or أَشَدُّ النَّدَمِ, Zj) for a thing that has escaped one, so that he who feels it is like a beast that is tired, or fatigued, or jaded, (حَسِير,) and of no use: pl. حَسَرَاتٌ. You say, يَا حَسْرَتَا عَلَيْهِ [O my grief, or regret, &c., for it!]
