Full Definition

حَصَبَهُI , Present.T ـِ and ـُ Verbal.Noun حَصْبٌ, He threw at him, or pelted him with, pebbles, or small pebbles. And hence, in a general sense, He pelted him. And حَصَبَتِ الرِّيحُ بِالحَصْبَآءِ [The wind cast, or drove along, or tore up, the pebbles, or small pebbles].
2 Also, or حصّبهُ , Verbal.Noun تَحْصِيبٌ, or both, but the latter has an intensive signification, He spread pebbles in it, namely, a mosque, or a place; he strewed it, namely, a mosque, &c., with pebbles, or with small pebbles.
3 حَصَبَ بِهِ النَّارَ He threw it into the fire.
4 حَصَبَ النَّارَ He threw حَصَب [or firewood, &c.,] into the fire. [Also,] Verbal.Noun as above, He kindled the fire, or made it to blaze or flame, with حَصَب.

def.2 حَصَبُوا عَنْهُ They hastened from him, or it, in flight.
2 حَصَبَ عَنْ صَاحِبِهِ He turned away from his companion; as also احصب .
3 حَصَبَ فِى الأَرْضِ i. q. ذَهَبَ فِيهَا [which has two meanings: he went away in, or into, the country, or land: and he discharged his excrement: the former seems to be here meant].

def.3 حُصِبَ; (K; [in a copy of the A حَصُبَ, but this is probably a mistranscription, as appears to be indicated by its being there added that the part. n. is مَحْصُوبٌ;]) and حَصِبَ, Present.T ـَ Verbal.Noun حَصَبٌ, or حَصَبٌ; [and app. also; (see مَحْصُوبٌ;)] He broke forth with حَصْبَة [i. e. measles, or spotted fever]. The second of these verbs signifies as above, said of a person's skin.
