Full Definition

حَطَبَI , Present.T ـِ Verbal.Noun حَطْبٌ, He collected حَطَب, i. e. firewood; as also احتطب : [and] so حَطَبَ الحَطَبَ, Present.T and Verbal.Noun as above; and احتطب .
2 [Hence,] حَطَبَ فِى حَبْلِهِ, or فى حَبْلِهِمْ, [lit. He collected firewood in his, or their, rope; meaning] he aided, or assisted, him, or them. One says, إِنَّكَ تَحْطِبُ فِى حَبْلِهِ وَ تَمِيلُ إِلَى هَوَاهُ [Verily thou aidest him, and inclinest to his desire].
3 And حَطَبَ عَلَيْهِ بِخَيْرٍ He brought to him خير, meaning wealth, or property.
4 And فُلَانٌ يَحْطِبُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ Such a one incites, urges, or instigates, [others] against such a one.
5 And حَطَبَ بِهِ He calumniated him, or slandered him. (A, Mgh, Msb, K. [See حَطَبٌ, below.])

def.2 حَطَبَهُ, Present.T ـِ He collected firewood for him: or he brought firewood to him: as also احتطب لَهُ. You say, فُلَانٌ يَحْطِبُ رُفَقَآءَهُ وَ يَسْقِيهِمْ [Such a one collects firewood for, or brings firewood to, his companions, and gives them to drink].
2 Also He collected for him a thing as firewood.
3 حَطَبُوا كَرْمَهُمْ, Verbal.Noun حَطْبٌ, [and app. also حِطَابٌ, which see below, or this may be a simple subst.,] They cut off the حَطَب of their grapevine; i. e. the dry portions thereof, that were of no use but for fire.
