حِفَافٌ

Full Definition

حِفَافٌ A side of a thing; حِفَافَا شَىْءٍ signifying the two sides of a thing: pl. أَحفَّةٌ.
2 A border of hair remaining around the head of one who has become bald: pl. as above. Dhu-r-Rummeh says, describing bowls [of food], لَهُنَّ أِذَا أَصْبَحْنَ مِنْهُمْ أَحِفَّةٌ وَحِينَ يَرَوْنَ اللَّيْلَ أَقْبَلَ جَائِيَا meaning They, i. e. the bowls, have a party of them surrounding them [when they are set in the beginning of the day, and when they see the night, that it has advanced, coming on]. And you say, قَوْمُهُ أَحِفَّةٌ بِهِ His people are surrounding him.
3 حِفَافُ الرَّمْلِ The place where the sand ends: pl. as above.
4 كَانَ الطَّعَامُ حِفَافَ مَا أَكَلُوا The food was proportionate to what they ate.
