حَفَزَهُI , Present.T ـِ Verbal.Noun حَفْزٌ, He hastened, or hurried, or incited, him, or it, from behind, either by driving or otherwise: this is the primary signification. You say, حَفَزَهُ عَنِ الأَمْرِ, Present.T and Verbal.Noun as above, He hastened, or hurried, and urged, him away from the thing or affair.
2 He pushed him, or it, from behind. [Hence,] حَفَزَ اللَّيْلُ النَّهَارَ, Present.T as above, and so the Verbal.Noun, The night urged on the day.
3 He put in motion, and disturbed, or removed, him, or it.
4 He thrust him, or pierced him, بِالرُّمْحِ with the spear.
5 [Hence,] حَفَزَ signifies also Inivit feminam.
6 حَفَزُوا عَلَيْنَا الخَيْلَ وَالرِّكَابَ They poured upon us [the horses and the camels with their riders].
