Full Definition

حيّاهُII , Verbal.Noun تَحِيَّةٌ, in its primary sense, i. q. احياهُ . You say, حَيَّاكَ ٱللّٰهُ, meaning May God preserve thee alive; prolong thy life; or make thee to continue in life; syn. أَبْقَاكَ; as also ; or عَمَّرَكَ: or may God save thee; or make thee to be free from evil, or harm, or the like: or may God make thee to have dominion: or may God honour thee, and benefit thee. And حَيَّاكَ ٱللّٰهُ وَبَيَّاكَ [explained in art. بى]. And حَيَّا ٱللّٰهُ وَجْهَكَ [May God preserve thy face: see مُحَيًّا].
2 Also He said to him حَيَّاكَ ٱللّٰهُ, explained above: originally, he prayed for his life: and then, he prayed for him, absolutely: he saluted him; and so حيّاهُ تَحِيَّةَ المُؤْمِنِ: as used in the language of the law, he said to him, سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكَ.
