Full Definition

خَرْقٌ , originally an Verbal.Noun, of 1: A hole, or perforation, in a garment, and in a wall, &c.: and a round hole, or perforation, in the ear of a sheep: pl. خُرُوقٌ. Hence the saying, اِتَّسَعَ الخَرْقُ عَلَى الرَّاقِعِ [The hole was, or became, wide to the patcher].
2 And A part that has a hole made in it, or that is rent, or torn, of, or from, a thing.
3 Also A desert; and so مَخْرَقٌ : or the former, a desert far extending, whether level or not level: and ↓ the latter, a wide desert in which the winds [blow, or] blow irregularly: and the former, as also , signifies likewise a wide land, or a wide country, in which the winds [blow, or] blow irregularly: ISh says, the space between El-Basrah and Hafr Abee-Moosà is a خَرْق, and that between En-Nibáj and Dareeyeh is a خَرْق: pl. خُرُوقٌ. You say also مَفَازَةٌ خَوْقَآءُ A farextending desert. And قَطَعْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ أَرْضًا and [We have traversed, in journeying to you, a wide land, or a wide land in which the winds blow, &c.].
