خُشَّافٌ

Root: خشف

Full Definition

خُشَّافٌ A certain nocturnal flying thing; the خُفَّاش [or bat], that flies by night: so says El-Fárábee, in section ش: formed by transposition from the latter word, which is the more chaste: or rather so called because of its خَفَشَان, i. e. its going about, or round about, by night: or a certain flying thing, having two small eyes: as some say, and thus also says El-Fárábee, the خُطَّاف [or swallow]: he who says خُفَّاشٌ derives its name from the smallness of its eyes.
