خَلِعُ

Full Definition

خَلِعُ [ A horse throwing off his headstall, or halter, and wandering about at random.
2 And hence, A man throwing off from himself restraint, and acting in a wrongful and an evil manner towards others, with none to repress him. See also خَلِيعٌ.
3 And hence,] A beardless youth, or young man; or one whose mustache has grown forth, but not his beard.
4 خَالِعٌ A kid. [App. because of its playful disposition.]
5 A woman who incites, urges, or induces, her husband to divorce her for a gift, or a compensation, from her to him: [see 3:] or who causes herself to be divorced for a gift, or a compensation, from her to her husband: [see 6:] and in like manner, a husband who divorces his wife for a gift, or a compensation, from her.
6 رُطَبٌ خَالِعٌ Dates that are all ripe, or ripe throughout, or soft; syn. مُنْسَبِتٌ; because their skins strip off by reason of their succulency: and بُسْرَةٌ خَالِعٌ, and خَالِعَةٌ, a date that has become wholly fit to be eaten. [See بُسْرٌ]
7 خَالِعٌ also signifies A twisting of the عُرْقُوب [or hocktendon]: or a certain disease that attacks the عُرْقُوب of a she-camel. And you say, بَعِيرٌ بِهِ خَالِعٌ, or بَعِيرٌ خَالِعٌ, A camel that is unable to rise when a man sits upon the part called غُرَاب [q. v.] of its haunch, in consequence, as some say, of a dislocation of the tendon of the hock.
8 جُبْنٌ خَالِعٌ Vehement cowardice; as though the vehemence of the man's fear removed his heart from its place; accord. to IAth, an affection arising from yearning thoughts, and weakness of the heart, on an occasion of fear.
