ذُؤَالَةُ

Full Definition

ذُؤَالَةُ The wolf: so called because of his light walk or manner of going; or because of a lightness in his running: it is determinate, and imperfectly decl., being a proper name and [grammatically] of the fem. gender: pl. ذِئْلَانٌ and ذُؤْلَانٌ. One says, خَشِّ ذُؤَالَةَ بَالحِبَالَةِ [Frighten thou the wolf with the snare]: a prov., applied to him whose threatening is not regarded: meaning threaten thou other than me; for I know thee: or, accord. to A'Obeyd, said by him who orders one to menace and threaten.
