ذِيفَانٌ and ذَيْفَانٌ and ذَيَفَانٌ Deadly poison: or poison that takes effect; or that remains fixed, and collects: a dial. var. of ذِئْفَانٌ &c., and ذُوفَانٌ. And the second of these words, Death: so in the saying, سَقَاهُ ٱللّٰهُ كَأْسَ الذَّيْفَانِ [May God give him to drink the cup of death]; as mentioned by Lh.
