Full Definition

رَحَلَI , Present.T ـَ Verbal.Noun رَحْلٌ, [He saddled the camel;] he bound, or put, the رَحْل upon the camel; as also . And رَحَلَهُ رَحْلَهُ He bound upon him his apparatus.
2 Also, Present.T and Verbal.Noun as above, He mounted the camel: and البَعِيرَ I rode the camel, either with a قَتَب [or saddle] or upon his bare back.
3 [Both of these verbs are also used tropically.] You say, رَحَلْتُ لَهُ نَفْسِى [lit. I saddled for him myself;] meaning I endured patiently his annoyance, or molestation. And رَحَلَ فُلَانٌ صَاحِبَهُ بِمَا يَكْرَهُ [Such a one put upon, or did to, his companion that which he disliked, or hated]. And [in like manner] ترحّلهُ means رَكِبَهُ بِمَكْرُوهٍ [He did to him an evil, or abominable, or odious, deed]. And رَحَلَهُ بِسَيْفِهِ He smote him with his sword.
4 And رَحَلَ فُلَانٌ فُلَانًا Such a one mounted upon the back of such a one; as also عَلَى ظَهْرِهِ; [and ارتحلهُ alone; for] it is said in a trad., إِنَّ ٱبْنِى , meaning Verily my son mounted upon my back, making me like the رَاحِلَة: and if a man throws down another prostrate, and sits upon his back, you say, رَأَيْتُهُ مُرْتَحِلَهُ [I saw him sitting upon his back]. And [hence] الأَمْرَ He embarked in the affair. And فُلَانٌ أَمْرًا مَا يُطِيقُهُ [Such a one embarked, or has embarked, in an affair which he is unable to accomplish]. And الحُمَّى [The fever continued upon him]; a phrase similar to رَكِبَتْهُ الحمّى and اِمْتَطَتْهُ and أَغْبَطَتْهُ. (A and TA in art. غبط.)

def.2 رَحَلَ عَنِ المَكَانِ, or عَنِ البَلَدِ, Present.T ـَ Verbal.Noun رَحْلٌ, or رَحِيلٌ, or this latter is a simple subst.; and , and , عَنِ المَكَانِ, or عَنِ القَوْمِ; all signify the same; He removed, went, went away, departed, went forth, or journeyed, from the place, or from the country or the like, or from the people. See an ex. of the first of these verbs in a verse cited in the next paragraph. said of a camel, or ارتحل رَحْلَهُ, signifies He journeyed, and went away: [or he had his saddle put upon him:] and hence, القَوْمُ The people, or party, removed.
