رَغِيبٌ

Full Definition

رَغِيبٌ Wide, or ample; applied in this sense to a watering-trough or tank, and to a skin for water or milk, &c.: pl. رِغَابٌ and رُغُبٌ. (L in art. أسد.) You say also طَرِيقٌ رَغِبٌ A wide road: pl. رُغُبٌ. And مُرَاغِبٌ مَكَانٌ A wide, or an ample, place. And وَادٍ رُغُبٌ A wide valley; [and] so وَادٍ رَغِيبٌ: or a wide valley, that takes much water; as also رَغِيبٌ; contr. of وَادٍ زهِيدٌ. And طَعْنَةٌ رَغِيبَةٌ A wide wound inflicted with a spear or the like. And سَيْفٌ رَغِيبٌ A wide sword, that inflicts a large wound.
2 A man, or other animal, having a capacious inside, or belly: pl. رِغَابٌ.
3 Voracious; a great eater: desirous of much eating: very greedy, or gluttonous: (S, K: [see also رِغِّيبٌ:]) vehemently, excessively, or culpably, desirous of worldly goods; and one who makes himself to be large, or abundant, therein: or large in his hopes, and desirous of much: and رَغِيبُ الجَوْفِ a man who is a great eater; or capacious in the inside, or belly, and a great eater: and بَطْنٌ رَغِيبٌ a belly that devours much.
4 هُوَ رَغِيبُ العَيْنِ, (T and A and TA in art. زهد,) and لَهُ عَيْنٌ رَغِيبَةٌ, He is not content but with much; contr. of هو زَهِيدُ العَيْنِ, and of لَهُ عَيْنٌ زَهِيدَةٌ. [رَعِيبُ العَيْنِ has a different meaning: see art. رعب.]
5 فَرَسٌ رَغِيبُ الشَّحْوَةٍ (S, in a copy of the A and in the TA الشحو,) A horse of wide step, that takes a large space of ground with his legs: pl. رِغَابٌ.
6 إِبِلٌ رِغَابٌ, the latter word being the pl. form, Camels yielding a copious supply of milk, and very profitable. And Many camels.
7 حِمْلٌ رَغِيبٌ and مُرْتَغِبٌ A heavy load.
