Lane's Arabic-English Lexicon

سَحُورٌ

Root: سحر

Full Definition

سَحُورٌ A meal, or food, or [particularly] سَوِيق [generally meaning meal of parched barley], that is eaten at the time called the سَحَر; or a draught of milk that is drunk at that time. It is repeatedly mentioned in trads. [relating to Ramadán, when the Muslim is required to be exact in the time of this meal], and mostly as above; but some say that it is correctly [in these cases] with damm, [i. e. سُحُور, which see below,] because the blessing and recompense have respect to the action, and not to the food.
