Full Definition

شَحَذَI , Present.T ـَ Verbal.Noun شَحْذٌ, He sharpened a knife, and a sword, and the like, or an iron implement, , with a whetstone or other similar thing; as also ; and شحّذ , Verbal.Noun تَشْحِيذٌ.
2 [Hence,] شَحَذْتَ عَلَيْنَا لِسَانَكَ [Thou hast sharpened against us thy tongue]. (A and TA in art. رهف.) And اِشْحَذْ لَهُ غَرْبَ ذِهْنِكَ [Sharpen thou for it the edge of thine intellect]. And شَحَذَهُ بِعَيْنِهِ, or بِبَصَرِهِ, He looked sharply at him. And شَحَذَ الجُوعُ مَعِدَتَهُ Hunger made his stomach keen, and strengthened it, and inflamed it.
3 Hence also, i. e. from شَحَذَ in the sense first expl. above, فُلَانٌ يَشْحَذُ النَّاسَ, (Verbal.Noun شَحْذٌ, K,) Such a one begs importunately of men: and شَحَذْتُهُ I begged importunately of him.
4 And شَحَذَهُ He drove him away; namely, a man; as also تشحّذهُ , or شحّذهُ , Verbal.Noun تَشْحِيذٌ. [See also 5 below.] And شَحَذْتُهُ, Verbal.Noun as above, I drove him vehemently.
5 شَحْذٌ also signifies The being angry. You say, شَحَذَ عَلَيْهِ He was angry with him.
6 And i. q. قَشْرٌ [The act of paring, or peeling, &c.]. You say, شَحَذَهُ, i. e. قَشَرَهُ [He pared it, peeled it, &c.].
