Full Definition

شَغْزَبِيَّةٌ and شَغْزَبَى , as also شَغْرَبِيَّةٌ and شَغْرَبَى, but more chastely with ز, A sort of trick in throwing down [or wrestling]; the twisting of one's leg with the leg of another, and throwing him down in the manner termed شَزْرًا [or sideways]: and one says also, أَخَذَهُ بِالشَّغْزَبِيَّةِ, (S, TA, [in one of my copies of the S بِالشَّغْزَبَةِ,]) meaning the same: and صَرَعَهُ صَرْعَةً شَغْزَبِيَّةً: [the pl. is شَغَازِبُ:] Dhu-r-Rummeh says, وَلَبَّسَ بَيْنَ أَقْوَامٍ فَكُلٌّ أَعَدَّ لَهُ الشَّغَازِبَ وَالمِحَالَ [And he involved affairs in confusion between parties, so all prepared for him tricks by which to overthrow him, and artifice]
