صِفْرِدٌ A certain bird, of a cowardly nature, larger than the sparrow, that frequents houses, and is the most cowardly of birds; it is afraid of the [little bird called] صَعْوَة; and is by the vulgar called أَبُو المَلِيحِ. أَجْبَنُ مِنْ صِفْرِدٍ [More cowardly than a sifrid] is a prov., asserted by AO to be postclassical.
