Full Definition

ضَامَّةٌ [a subst. from ضَامٌّ, rendered such by the affix ة]. You say, نَهَضَ فُلَانٌ لِلْقِتَالِ وَهُوَ ضَامَّةُ قَوْمِهِ [Such a one rose and sped to fight, or to the fight, he being the musterer of his people, or party].
2 Also A want, or an object of want, that brings one and causes him to have recourse [to a thing]. (Meyd, in explanation of a prov. cited voce ضَائِمٌ, in art. ضيم, q. v.)
