طَاؤُوسٌ , of the measure فَاعُولٌ, the hemzeh being a substitute for و, [The peacock;] a certain bird, beautiful, and well known: dim. طُوَيْسٌ, formed after the rejection of the augmentative letters: pl. طَوَاوِيسُ and أَطْوَاسٌ, by the rejection of what is augmentative: the former pl. is the more known.
2 A goodly, or beautiful, man; in the dial. of Syria.
3 Silver; in the dial. of El-Yemen.
4 Verdant land, wherein, or whereon, is every kind of plant, or of flowers, in the days of spring.
