Full Definition

طالعهُIII , Verbal.Noun مُطَالَعَةٌ and طِلَاعٌ, i. q. اِطَّلَعَ عَلَيْهِ; i. e., a thing: Lth says that طِلَاعٌ is syn. with اِطِّلَاعٌ; but Az disapproves this: [the verb is correctly explained in what here follows:] one says, طَالَعْتُ ضَيْعَتِى, meaning نَظَرْتُهَا وَٱطَّلَعْتُ عَلَيْهَا [I inspected, or considered with my eye, my estate, and obtained a knowledge of it, or acquainted myself with its condition]: or مُطَالَعَةٌ signifies the inspecting a thing well, in order to obtain a knowledge of it. [Hence, مُطَالَعَةُ الكُتُبِ The studying, and perusing, of books.]
