Root: طرز

Full Definition

The embroidery, or variegated or figured work, (عَلَم,) of a garment, or piece of cloth: a Pers. word, arabicized: said to be originally تِرْزْ, meaning, in Pers., “ even measurement: ” [or originally طِرَازْ, which has the same meaning in Pers. as the arabicized form has in Arabic:] pl.
2 And A garment, or piece of cloth, woven for the Sultán: also arabicized [from the Pers. طِرَازْ, meaning, a royal robe, or rich embroidered garment]: and one also says, ثَوْبٌ طِرَازِىٌّ : or this last is so called from a place named طِرَاز.
3 And A place in which goodly garments or cloths are woven: and this also is arabicized [from the Pers. طِرَازْ, which has the same meaning]. This garment, or piece of cloth, was made in such a one's place for weaving goodly garments or cloths. [It is what has been made in God's place of creation of goodly things]: said of a beautiful face. [This beautiful language is of the elegant composition of such a one]. He is of the first noble extraction]. (A, TA. [See also طَرْزٌ.]) And one says of a man, when he utters a good thing of his own excogitation, [This is of his clever excogitation]. And in like manner is expl. the phrase, in a trad., This is not of thine own authorship and excogitation.
4 See also طَرْزٌ, in four places.
