طَسْقٌ , incorrectly pronounced by the people of Baghdád طِسْقٌ, A certain measure of capacity, well known: and the portion of the [tax called] خَرَاج that is levied on the [quantities of land termed] جُرْبَان, pl. of جَرِيبٌ: an assessed rate (وَظِيفَةٌ) of the land-tax: it is like the خَرَاج, having a certain amount: or it is like an impost of a certain amount: not a pure Arabic word: app. post-classical: or a Pers. word arabicized: from the Pers. تَشَه [or تَشَّهْ] originally signifying “ an oil-measure: ” it occurs in a letter of 'Omar to 'Othmán.
