طُفْيَةٌ

Full Definition

طُفْيَةٌ The leaf of the مُقْل [or Theban palm]; and so طُفْوَةٌ : pl. طُفْىٌ or [rather this is a coll. gen. n., and the pl. properly so termed is] طُفًى, which is [also] pl. of طُفْوَةٌ. [Accord. to Forskål , the Theban palm itself, which he terms “ borassus flabelliformis, ” is called طفى, as well as دوم.]
2 And [hence] الطُّفْيَةُ, or ذُو الطُّفْيَتَيْنِ, is the name of A serpent of a foul, or malignant, sort, having upon its back two lines, or stripes, which are black, resembling two leaves such as are termed طُفْيَتَانِ: and sometimes it is termed طُفْيَةٌ, meaning ذَاتُ طُفْيَةٍ: and الطُّفَى is used as the pl., meaning ذَوَاتُ الطُّفَى.
