Full Definition

طَيَاI , Present.T يَطْيُو, Verbal.Noun طُيُوٌّ; and طَيَى, Present.T يَطْمِى, Verbal.Noun طُمِىٌّ, thus in the M [as well as in the S], or طَمْىٌ, thus in the K and in the book of ISk; said of water, It became high, or it rose high, and filled the channel in which it flowed. [See also طَمَّ.]
2 And, both verbs, said of a plant, It became tall.
3 Also, said of the sea, and of a river, and of a well, It became full: so says Lth.
4 And طَمَتْ بِزَوْجِهَا She exalted herself with her husband; syn. اِرْتَفَعَتْ بِهِ; from طَمَا or طَمَى said of water: or she grinned at her husband.
5 طَمَتْ بِهِ هِمَّتُهُ, Present.T طَيُوَ and طَيِوَ as above, His ambition elevated him.
6 And طَمَا بِهِ said of anxiety, and of grief, and of fear, It became vehement in him: the following verse by himself is quoted by Z: قَدْ طَمَا بِى خَوْفُ المَنِيَّةِ لٰكِنْ خَوْفُ مَا يَعْقُبُ المَنِيَّةَ أَطْمَى [ The fear of death has become vehement in me, but the fear of what will follow death is more vehement.]
7 And طَمَى, Present.T يَطْمِى, like طَمَّ, Present.T يَطِمُّ, signifies He passed by, or along, hastening, or going quickly: and hence, طَمَا [or طَمَى], said of a horse, He hastened, or went quickly.
