عَبِيطٌ

Full Definition

عَبِيطٌ , or عَبِيطَةٌ, and مُعْتَبِطَةٌ , A beast, [meaning a camel,] or a she-camel, or the second and third applied to a sheep or goat, stabbed, or stuck, or slaughtered, in a sound, or healthy, state, in a state of freedom from disease, and from fracture, and in a fat and youthful condition, or free from anything injurious except a fracture: [contr. of عَارِضٌ and عَارِضَةٌ: ] pl. عُبُطٌ and عِبَاطٌ: and , also, applied to a sheep or goat, signifies slaughtered in a sound, or healthy, state. Also عَبِيطٌ, applied to flesh-meat, signifies the same: or in a sound, or healthy, state: or free from anything injurious, except a fracture of a bone; so says Ibn-Buzurj: or fresh; and so applied to blood, and to saffron: or, applied to blood, pure; free from admixture; and fresh: also, applied to flesh-meat, fresh, as meaning not cooked: and مَعْبُوطٌ , applied to the same, not such as a beast or bird of prey has fastened upon, nor affected by disease.
2 عَبِيطٌ also signifies Slit, or rent, when whole, or sound; applied to a garment, or piece of cloth; and to leather; &c.; and so مَعْبُوطٌ : pl. of the former, عُبُطٌ.
3 And Dust raised by the hoofs of an ass.
