عُجَالَةٌ

Root: عجل

Full Definition

عُجَالَةٌ and عِجَالَةٌ and عُجْلٌ and عُجْلَةٌ A thing that one takes hastily, or quickly: and the first, [or all,] the rider's provision of food whereof the eating does not fatigue, as dates, and meal of parched barley; because he desires its readiness, for the journeying hurries him so as to prevent his having food prepared with pains: and hasty provision for a guest. One says, التَّمْرُ عُجَالَةُ الرَّاكِبِ [Dates are the hastily-taken food of the rider]: and so, الثَّيِّبُ [q. v.]; which is a prov., said by A'Obeyd to be used in urging one to be content with a little of what is wanted when much thereof is unattainable.
2 Also, the same four words, The milk which the مُعَجِّل [q. v.] draws; and so إِعْجَالَةٌ : or this last signifies the milk of his camels which the pastor hastens to bring to his family before the [fresh] milking, or when his camels return from the water; and its pl. is إِعْجَالَاتٌ: and عُجَالَةٌ signifies the milk which the pastor carries from the place of pasture to the owners of the sheep or goats before the sheep or goats return; this being done only when there is abundance of milk.
