Full Definition

عَدْوَةٌ [Verbal.Noun un. of عَدَا: pl. عَدَوَاتٌ.
2 Hence the saying, السُّلْطَانُ ذُو عَدَوَاتٍ وَذُو بَدَوَاتٍ, expl. voce بَدَآءٌ, in art. بدو. See another reading of this saying voce عَدَوَانٌ.]
3 [Hence also,] one says, لَهُ عَدْوَةٌ شَدِيدَةٌ He has a vehement run of the kind termed عَدْو, Verbal.Noun of عَدَا.
4 عَدْوَةُ الأَمَدِ means The extent of the eyesight. And one says, هُوَ مِنِّى عَدْوَةَ القَوْسِ [app. meaning He, or it, is at the distance of a bowshot from me].
