Q. 1
He hocked, houghed, hamstrung, or cut the hock-tendon of, the beast.
2 And عَرْقَبَهُ He raised his hocks, in order that he might stand up: he assisted him to stand up, by raising [his hocks]. Thus the verb has two contr. meanings.
3 And عَرْقَبَ He practised artifice, craft, or cunning. One says, إِذَا أَعْيَاكَ غَرِيمُكَ فَعَرْقِبْ [When thy debtor wearies thee,] practise artifice, &c.
