عَسْبٌ

Full Definition

عَسْبٌ A stallion's covering, or compressing: [in this sense an Verbal.Noun: ] also used, metaphorically, as relating to a man: or his sperma; that of a horse or of a camel; in which sense it has no verb: or his progeny: and offspring; syn. وَلَدٌ; [app. of human beings; for it is added by SM that,] in this sense, it is, accord. to some, tropical. One says, قَطَعَ ٱللّٰهُ عَسْبَهُ, meaning [God cut short, or may God cut short,] his progeny, or his sperma and his progeny. And Kutheiyir says, describing mares that had cast abortively their offspring, يُغَادِرْنَ عَسْبَ الوَالِقِىِّ وَنَاصِحٍ تَخُصُّ بِهِ أُمُّ الطَّرِيقِ عِيَالَهَا [They leave behind them the offspring of ElWálikee and Násih: the hyena appropriates them to her dependants for maintenance]: الوالقىّ and ناصح were two horses; two stallions; and امّ الطريق is the hyena.
2 Also The hire of covering, for كِرَآءُ عَسْبٍ; the hire that is taken for a stallion's covering: so in a trad. in which it is said that عَسْبُ الفَحْلِ is forbidden.
