Full Definition

عَسَاI , Present.T يَعْسُو, Verbal.Noun عُسُوٌّ and عَسَآءٌ, The wood, or stick, was, or became, dry and hard: and عَسَا النَّبَاتُ, inf. ns. as above, the plant was, or became, thick, or coarse, or rough, and dry, and hard; as also عَسِىَ, (Kh, S, TA, [in the CK, in art. عسى, erroneously written عَسَى,]) a dial. var. of the former, Verbal.Noun عَسًا.
2 And عَسَتْ يَدُهُ, Present.T تَعْسُو, Verbal.Noun عُسُوٌّ and عُسِىٌّ, His hand became thick, or coarse, or rough, from work.
3 عَسَا said of an old man, Present.T يَعْسُو, Verbal.Noun عُسِىٌّ, or عُسُوٌّ, or both, and عَسَآءٌ and عَسْوٌ; and عَسِىَ, Verbal.Noun عَسًا; He became aged, or ad- vanced in age, and in a declining state by reason of age: like عَتَا. [See also an explanation of عَتَا more agreeable with the first and second of the significations mentioned in this paragraph.]
4 And عَسَا اللَّيْلُ The night became intensely dark: but غَسَا is more known [in this sense].
