Full Definition

عمّاهُII , Verbal.Noun تَعْمِيَةٌ, He rendered him blind, of both eyes: and so اعماهُ , said of God, or of a man. Hence the saying of Sá'ideh Ibn-Jueiyeh, وَعَمَّى عَلَيْهِ المَوْتُ بَابَىْ طَرِيقِهِ [And death rendered blind, to him, the two doors of his way]; بابى طريقه meaning his two eyes.
2 And [hence] عَمَّيْتُ الخَبَرَ I made the information unapparent, obscure, or covert. And عمّى مَعْنَى البَيْتِ, Verbal.Noun as above, He made the meaning of the verse unapparent, obscure, or covert. And عمّى مُرَادَهُ He made his meaning enigmatical, or obscure, in his speech, or language. (S, A, K, in art. لغز.) And عمّى عَلَى إِنْسَانٍ شَيْئًا He made a thing obscure, or dubious, to a man.
