عَوَارٌ and عُوَارٌ and عِوَارٌ A fault; a defect; an imperfection; a blemish; something amiss; in an article of merchandise, and in a garment, or piece of cloth, and in a slave, and in a beast: or in a garment, or piece of cloth, a hole, and a rent; and so in the like, and in a house or tent and the like; and in a garment, or piece of cloth, also a burn; and a rottenness: and some say that عَوَارٌ, with fet-h, is only in goods, or commodities, or articles of merchandise. You say سِلْعَةٌ ذَاتُ عَوَارٍ, and , accord. to AZ, An article of merchandise having a fault, or the like. [See also عَوَرٌ.]
