A sudden, or an unexpected, calamity, of time, or fortune: pl. غَوَافِصُ. You say, وَقَاكَ ٱللّٰهُ غَوَافِصَ الدَّهْرِ [May God preserve thee from the sudden, or unexpected, calamities of time, or fortune].
