غَالِبٌ

Full Definition

غَالِبٌ A man who overcomes, conquers, subdues, overpowers, masters, or surpasses; or overcoming, &c.: pl. غَلَبَةٌ.
2 اِسْمٌ غَالِبٌ A noun [used predominantly in one of its senses,] such as دَابَّةٌ applied toa horse,and مَالٌ applied tocamels. ” (TA in art. سنه.) And صِفَةٌ غَالِبَةٌ [i. e. غَالِبَةٌ ٱسْمِيَّتُهَا, or غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْهَا الاِسْمِيَّةُ,] An epithet [in which the quality of a substantive is predominant,] such as حَاجِبٌ applied toa doorkeeper. ” (TA in art. حجب.)
3 [And الغَالِبُ signifies also The most, or the most part; and the generality: whence, غَالِبًا and فِى الغَالِبِ meaning Mostly, or for the most part: in which sense فى is sometimes used: and generally.
