غَرْثَانُ

Full Definition

غَرْثَانُ Hungry: [or, accord. to some, in the slightest degree: and accord. to some, vehemently: ] you say قَوْمٌ غَرْثَى [using the fem., i. e. a hungry people or party], and غَرَاثَى, and also with kesr to the ث [i. e. غَرَاثٍ] accord. to a copy of the S, and غِرَاثٌ: the fem. is غَرْثَى; pl. غِرَاثٌ. And you say اِمْرَأَةٌ غَرْثَى الوِشَاحِ, meaning A woman slender in the waist: because she does not fill her وشاح [q. v.] which is therefore as though it were hungry.
