فَثَأَI

ـَ Verbal.Noun فَثْءٌ and فُثُوْءٌ, both inf. ns. from Lh, He stilled, or allayed, the boiling of the pot, with water, i. e. with cold water, or by lading out with the ladle: and ثَفَأَهَا signifies the same.
2 [Hence] one says, أَطْفَأَ فُلَانٌ النَّائِرَةَ وَفَثَأَ القُدُورَ الفَائِرَةَ [Such a one extinguished the discord, or rancour, or enmity, and stilled the boiling passions].
3 And فَثَأَ غَضَبَهُ, Present.T ـَ Verbal.Noun فَثْءٌ, He stilled, or quieted, or abated, his anger, by words, or otherwise. إِنَّ الرَّثِيْئَةَ تَفْثَأُ الغَضَبَ [Verily what is termed
رثيئة
stills, or appeases, anger] is one of their provs., expl. in art. رثأ.
4 And فَثَأْتُ الرَّجُلَ, or فَثَأْتُهُ عَنِّى, I averted, or turned back, the man from me, by words, or otherwise. And فَثَأَ الشَّىْءَ عَنْهُ, Verbal.Noun فَثْءٌ, He averted the thing from him. And مَا فَثَأَكَ عَنَّا What withheld, or has withheld, thee from us?
5 Also فَثَأَ الشَّىْءَ, Present.T ـَ Verbal.Noun فَثْءٌ and فُثُوْءٌ, He allayed the cold of the thing by heating. And فَثَأَتِ الشَّمْسُ المَآءَ The sun abated, or allayed, the cold of the water. And فَثَأَهُ, Verbal.Noun فَثْءٌ, He heated it; namely, water, &c. And accord. to MF, the phrase فَثَأَ اللَّبَنَ is allowable [as meaning He boiled the milk so that it frothed up and became curdled, or clotted, or dissundered: see what next follows].
def.2 فَثَأَ اللَّبَنُ, Present.T ـَ The milk was boiled so that it frothed up and became curdled, or clotted, or dissundered: when this is the case, the milk is termed فَاثِئٌ .
