Full Definition

فَاحَI , Present.T يَفِيحُ, Verbal.Noun فَيْحٌ and فَيَحَانٌ: see art. فوح.
2 فاح الدَّمُ, Verbal.Noun فَيْحٌ and فَيَحَانٌ, It poured out, or forth: or it flowed; as also افاح , Verbal.Noun إِفَاحَةٌ: or, accord. to AZ, the latter is trans., and signifies as expl. below in relation to blood.
3 And فَاحَتِ الشَّجَّةُ, Present.T تَفِيحُ, Verbal.Noun فَيْحٌ, The wound upon the head spirted forth blood; or poured forth much blood.
4 And فاح الحُرُّ, Present.T يَفِيحُ, Verbal.Noun فَيْحٌ; and Present.T يَفوحُ, Verbal.Noun فَوْحٌ; The heat rose, or diffused itself, and raged vehemently. It is said in a trad., شِدَّةُ القَيْظِ مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ [The intenseness of the heat of summer is from the vehement raging of the heat of Hell]. And one says, الحُمَّى مِنْ فَيْحِ جَهَنَّمَ The fever is from the vehemence of the heat of Hell.
5 And فَاحَتِ القِدْرُ, Present.T تَفِيحُ and تَفُوحُ, The cooking-pot boiled; as though it were the fire of Hell, in its heat.
6 And فَاحَتِ النَّارُ The fire spread. And [hence, app.,] فَاحَتِ الغَارَةُ, Present.T تَفِيحُ, i. e. [The troop of horsemen making an attack, or incursion, upon a people] spread themselves. See فَيَاحِ.
7 And فاح, Present.T يَفَاحُ, [Verbal.Noun, app. فَيَحٌ, which signifies “ width ” accord. to the S and K, and is agreeable with general analogy in this case, as the Present.T of the verb is originally يَفْيَحُ, though it seems to be implied in the Msb that the Present.T is not يَفَاحُ, but يَفِيحُ,] It was, or became, wide.
